The shot below represents a minimum sensible level for boating where the brick shoot weir at teh top is on th everge of turning into an unbroken wave; teh river will be low in patches at this level and Backbarrow bridge will just have the rock covered in the centre.

The folowing image shows the river at a decent low/medium. The river will be deep throughout and some samll play features will start to appear. the wave in the rapid just above the Graveyard will still have a foam pile. Backbarrow bridge will be splashy but fairly toothless!

As the river rises onto the trolley, and up the steps , the river nudges into a good medium level. Once its covering the trolley then things are looking good! this does make the river a geniune grade 3+ with the issue of the 'bridge' and weir below needing consideration.

The picture below is about as high as it got last year. The river will be fast flowing and good sport for the competent boater. the bridge will now be serious for allcomers and is ususally portaged at this kind of level (though the weir below does not get any more difficult than at usual high flows)
