Waving

A wave is a gesture in which the hand is raised and moved back and forth, as a greeting or sign of departure. The orientation of the hand varies by culture and situation. In many cultures, the palm is oriented toward the recipient of the wave.- according to Wikipedia.

I remember as children my brother and I used to try and laeap in to the front of the car to WAVE at passing paddlers, with a quick shove we would land back in our seat beaming that we had communicated with fellow paddlers.

This is what we do wave, honk our horn or flash the headlights every time we see a sit-on-top, sea kayak or dragon boat. If it floats it gets a wave, even the odd roof box gets a wave!  So why last weekend when we passed a car loaded up wth boats not a murmer, grin or slight movement. Zombies was the conclusion, I thought it was just basic etiqette passed down the line from paddler to paddler. Why is it increasing that folk dont wave back? So please tell new people to the sport or non wavers that they should wave. If nothing else its just polite.

Water in the rivers now so will see you on the water.
