The larger lake fed rivers still have a bit of thaw water in them and are ticking over at a medium level. Everything else is low. The forecast is for no rainfall over the weekend.

There is some surf over in the North East. Tides are medium low.

Kenny from Lancaster Uni is organising a charity kayak race on the 10th of March. Details can be found here.

Also a shout to all those who have contributed to the water levels updates - its appreciated :-) and last but not least Cumbria Canoeists have agreed to help out with a new 'Kent cam'. We will obviously point it out here when it is online.

Water lack of quality

Slime  highlights the news that  "In the recent severe weather the EA gave a special dispensation to farmers to spread slurry and waste on frozen fields where they could not store or transport the slurry in the normal way.  So in a nutshell the rivers are up but we can expect a lot more nasty shit in them than normal whilst the melt is on."

Now where did I put  my ear plugs...

All the lovely snow is going :-(  However, it is going down the rivers :-)

There is a major front due in tonight and freezing levels will be high. Given the snow on the ground there is the possibility of very high water levels tomorrow and teh larger rivers wil lbe high the next day. Check the freezing levels overnight to assess which catchment areas will be thawing.

The ice routes have been coming in during the week but quite what state they will be in tomorrow remains to be seen. There is a bit of surf and tides are medium/high.

Have a good one...

Friday Forecast 8th Jan

Its cold, its snowy and its going to stay that way. The rivers are low. The snow is becoming compacted in places, particularly at lower elevations that are getting some sun, and it has turned to neve. There has been little seepage so the ice routes are bony. There is still good skiing, but some rocky exposed areas have been blown clear. Crampons have not actually been necessary so far on the main paths.

It's not a weekend for boating! Enjoy whichever alterantive is your thing :-)
