Webby stuff - We've been tidying up the back end of the site a bit and taken down the URL "www.rainchasers.com/home" and also got each page to redefine its friendly URL address. This may mean its worth checking that links to the site still work properly. They all should work (apart from that 'home' one, i think). Sorry if that messes your link up but im told it will help our SEO.

I'm really pleased to be able to say that we have two new blogs beginning on the site. Both have new links from the left menu and have 'feeds' to the top menus.
rookie's blog is intended to be an account of learning the sport, you'll see from the first entry that we're starting at the beginning here, with an account of his first expereince of moving water. I think it will be great for beginners and experts alike to watch someone go through the ups and downs of learning the sport for the first time. Quite where it leads we shall see...
maud and lou's blog combines a dutch kayaker (a rare breed, and pronounced 'maut') and an old lakes hand, louis. It will follow them on their trips to foreign parts pursuing the path of making kayaking a lifestyle. Written in an endeering european accent, the first entry reflects on an impression of paddling/living in the North of England over the winter.
Im really thankful to the new contributors, and I think this will give the site some new, refreshing, perspectives.
As ever all contributions are welcome - its a community based site and any articles submitted will be included. Particularly if they dont agree with me!

British this week for a change. This made me laugh/cringe, just lovin the barrel roll series of photos from the Cwm Llan. I've never actually got up there but it looks good, but its always looked low on the photos. Anyway im sure when it gets higher photos may slip off the agenda!
This though I struggled with. Obvious talent but is there really any need! I had to check this was British and not American self congratulation. But doesnt he look cute, which is obviously the most important thing! To be fair it is one of the dangers of putting oneself up on the tinterweb, so let it be in no doubt that i am a 'orrible, ugly, person who cant do twiddly dee's on the wave at holme pierrepoint. Havin said that I've never tried either so i'll go on with the fantasy of 'how hard can it be?'...!
Here is some scary water from north of the border. Too scary!? As for the water dip though I think this guy has it nailed (you gotta click for the images)!

We tried Arnside on Sunday morning on a 9.9 metre tide. The wind was from the North West, farily high pressure and the river low. I missed the bore but it was reported to be fairly poor. i think it needs the river to be flowing a bit to 'hold it back' a bit to form a good one?
The main race under the bridge worked well early on in the tide with some good waves forming ( the best in the widest stantion gap) and this provided a few good rides on a big open fast wave with a breaking section at the top. teh standard 'brew' style holes appeared in the narrow stantion shortly after this with strong shoulders on the left allow good right handed blunts. These decreased quickly and the whole thing dried up after only 15/20 minutes. Got no pics sorry as its not easy there to get snaps (no eddies and the waves are hidden by the viaduct.)
It was good that it worked at all but disappointingly breif. Worth a go on an equivalent tide or smaller under more favourable wind, pressure or river conditions methinks. i dont really understand the science of it and everyone seems to have there own theories. Whats yours?
Ive also taken on the smallest of the web jobs on the pile and put The Big Wet Huck on the links page. Ive meant to do it ever since I last updated but missed it for some unknown reason. Anyway I like it so check it out if you dont know it. It revolves around some good Scottish action, and has some useful guides and stuff.

We've mentally made the decision to change the hosting arrangements on the site as its getting unbearably slow. Not sure where to or when yet. I guess im just publicly commiting to getting it sorted - which is always a good first step. On the same theme, Ive got the info for the leven calibration and the rainchasers shap showreel and will get both sorted this week. Other cam and gauge projects are dragging but were still hopeful to have some good news on that soon...
thanks to those that have been updating the river levels page - i know ive found it useful so guess others have as well.
