The Leven is one of the best, and most precious, whitewater rivers in England. Many more people paddle it now than the previous open days "agreement" "allowed". What comes after this is currently being debated and there was a meeting tonight between different interested parties. Its been reported, by paddlers, that all parties involved are being constructive and imaginative in seeking an understanding that reflects the realities on the water.
One particular issue that is being raised is that paddlers are damaging the wall at the take out below the bridge at Haverthwaite (river left). Anyone who knows the river well will accept that this is true, several of the top level of blocks have come out in the last few years. You can imagine how much of big job it would be to reconstruct this wall, and we are being politely asked if we would, for now, get out on the right hand bank above the bridge whilst a better solution is being sorted.
I can only say that personally I think this sounds reasonable. Go check it out yourself when you do the shuttle. I would add that I will post up here whatever I am privy too.
"Access" is a tired, old fashioned, issue - but understanding and agreement is not.

If you fancy any hoodies etc with rainchasers written on them, then between the 9th to 23rd of Nov there is a 15% sale from spreadshirt - type code 'NOVEMBERSALE' when ordering. Some funds from each item go towards the running of the site.
Also the good folk at WCK have come up with the perfect goodie bag for shap - they will be bringing some extra beer for you to raid if and when you run out on the night :-). |

The EA gauges will not be updated for the next week. Normal service will be resumed after that. A big shout again to Jo Ratcliffe at the EA for her help and dedication with this project. |
