Rearrange the work schedule, cancel the family's birthdays, vaccinate against man flu and dont even consider doing any decorating!
If you only ever go to one talk about boating, or you want your non kayaking mates or family to 'get it' then this is the one... If you can make the Imax at Rheged on Monday 9th March it should be awesome. Still some tickets for the brewery in kendal on the Tuesday.
Doug Ammons is the paddlers paddler. 5 kids, a proper job, and a raft of hard first descents around the globe, this guy hand paddled the North Fork Payette and soloed the Stikine (probably all before breakfast!). He is hugely respected by his peers as a talented and graceful boater and a good guy. As a bonus, he writes really good books as well. "Laugh of the Water Nymph" is, in my opinion, hands down the best book ever written about boating. You can taste samples from its eclectic delights here

Rivers are low here, but the bigger stuff is at least moving. Very light rain is forecast tonight with a stronger dose on Saturday afternoon. This will leave the usual light scattered showers in its wake on Sunday. All of this stuff is due to be heavier in Scotland so the best boating will, as usual, will be there. It may be enough to get stuff going here but equally, it may not.
Tides are low and the NE coast surf forecast is uninspiring, though the SW may be working if your in the vicinity. |

The gauge on the Eamont is temporarily out of action. Normal weekday service will resume as soon as possible.
The trial period for this system is now up and we are hoping that it will remain for the foreseeable future until a better system is forthcoming. I'd like to write and thank the EA for this, so if anyone has any examples of good days made by the system, or journeys and CO2 saved by it then that would be helpful.
The Calibration picture is pretty much complete so I should get something up online in the next day or two. Following on from that we hope we can improve the graphics. |

There is less than a month to go on the short film competition. Your chance to enter the world off the sponsored boater in team pyranha, or to pick up some handy kit vouchers from Windermere Canoe and Kayak.
The first entries are in and will be online soon. Remember soemone is going to win it and its a film comp not a paddling comp, so anyone with a camera and a computer has a decent chance!!!
The judges are;
Sam Stephens - Pyranha Marketing Manager
Joe Beaumont - Manager of Windermere Canoe and Kayak
Steve Rogers - Kayak film maker and professional adventure photographer
Dave Kwant - Kayak film maker and expedition boater
Ali Marshall - Kayak film maker, expedition boater and member of team pyranha
Leo Houlding - Berghaus climber, BASE jumper adventurer TV and film maker
Dave Manby - Kayak legend blah blah, but mostly just Dave
Tom Woodstone - The previous rainchasers film comp winner
Ross Purdy - Adventure boater and photographer
Peter Knowles - 'Slime' adventure boater and publisher
Shorty - Our rainchasers rep (I've decided not to do it so I can advise folk impartially)

Wel most of the snow has gone and no rain forecast for here, the odd shower will pass through but nothing to get excited about. So the other options are surf at Thurso is 11ft this morning or newquay is fairly big. Teeside is open from 8-10:30/5-8. Or washburn 9-5. Tere is rain set to come in today to come in for northern Scotland and NE Scotland later on but this will fizzle out and looking dry for sunday. Im heading to the fells to get my legs working. Have a good one! |
