Lets keep it (mostly) local this week. It was nice to get out on Friday and Saturday, there was heaps of water in the Pennines and further East (full flood conditions), so it flowed for most of the weekend. The lakes didnt get that much, but we got out, and even did a bit of whitewater swimming in the warm (ish) water. I also had a go in one of these new surf boats, so will get my impressions of about that up some point this week.
There is a fairly new forum for boating called 'death before portage'. Its based in Cumbria, and hopefully will get the traffic needed to sustain a decent turnover. As UKRGB completely frustrates me, I really hope it takes off! I think we'll be taking ours down in the (long awaited!) forthcoming redesign, as its never taken off.
The River Allen Webcam site (Dunblane) has been added to the 'other webcams' and makes decent browsing, an area that is not that far off either.
I just cant resist a bit of overseas stuff though. How about a mexican run that if you squint really hard looks a bit like Yorkshire waterfalls! The Alseseca. Also here is a decent interview with Ben Stookesberry which includes talk of the Alseseca. I hate a lot of the current celeb kayak culture, a lot of which is quite exclusive in its style, but this is a bit more 'how we really do it'.

The Riverkore site has been updated with nice piccys and video as the Norweigian rafting season. Its quite inspiring to see what classy water is so relatively close.
Also the AKC site has some good pictures for fantasizing about. Text is in Germen but the pictures are in English ;-). The second story down looks like a good bit of river, again a Norweigian run, called the Rusta.
I know I keep saying it, but we have got some stuff to get out of our own, I'm currently fighting to keep the PC alive, fix a broken camcorder (due to damp), save up for a stills camera, release a downloadble/printable guide for the Lakes, get another web cam sorted etc etc. Dont mean to whinge, just trying to say why things have gone slow on the site. Also apologies to Josh and Greg who have given me stuff that I havent dealt with yet.
Anyway, as ever all contributions for material to go up are very welcome. As soon as I got the layout sorted, i'll also be appealing for pictures of local runs to go in the guide mentioned above. So if you have any good picture, old or new, if you could dig em out that would be cool. BTW iIts going to be a free download.

So you've seen the videos of skookumchuk tidal race (Here's some new pictures from pacific horizons of skook and some other waves being surfed in sea boats), a beautiful wave in a beautiful place and probably thought that you'd like to get there someday. Well it now appears that even the loggers are to be allowed to strip clear large section of such beautiful wildernesses. The locals have organized themselves to protest and have asked all paddlers for their support in protecting this special place in an open letter.
Read here then send an e- mail to register your objection if you feel so inclined.
Just to make us feel better, here is a tinterweb film and piccys of too much wood in the waterfall run of the Salmon River, Oregon.

I have finally managed to reposition the Kentcam and re-focus it. The angle is slightly different but is the best I can do with the new glazing.

Predictably, the rivers are low, and although there is some rain forecast its going to be pretty optimistic to think it wil send stuff up. Saturday should see patchy rain in the north west of scotland with nothing eleswhere, while a front is predicted to come in on Sunday, with the most rain in Mid/South Wales and Central England. In Scotland the rain on Sunday is forecast south of the Great Glen, but were getting pretty speculative now.
Tides are low and the suf forecast is pretty uninspiring, So no joy there.
For the artificial stuff Teeside is open 8 - 9.30 / 4 - 8 on Sat and an hour later on Sunday. The Tryweryn is open for the weekend.
