The Sesia in Valsesia, started to run last week. The tributaries offer fantastic creek boating that features on most european videos etc (Sermenza, Sorba etc etc). The runoff doesnt last long, maybe a few weeks in the tribs, but the main river is ok into the summer.
We're hoping to open an 'International' section on the water levels page and brush up on info from around Europe and America as the season goes on. Any ideas and contributions gratefully received.

I have just discovered that the Fresh Water Biological Association based on Windermere have a webcam looking on to the lake http://www.fba.org.uk/javawebcam.html having only seen it on an evening I am unsure of how useful it is. If there are enough features to distinguish the lake level it will allow us to calibrate the Leven levels.
Update Having seen this camera in daylight it looks ideal for calibration the steps on the left of the image are clear enough to be used as a gauge.

Dont want to add to the media panic about the coming collapse of civilisation, but boaters did find and report a dead swan on the Leven in Cumbria a couple of weeks back. Seeing as there is a realistic chance of paddlers spotting swans, ducks etc that arent at their best, I thought I'd stick up the contact number at DEFRA for reporting such things;
08459 33 55 77 (6am to 10 pm all week - I didnt realise H5-N1 had mutated into a daytime only strain of the virus!)

Brite Water are now updating a digitised copy of Richard Evans 1995 Cumbrian becks guide online, this was one of the first books of the area to explore the lesser known but highly rated runs such as Whillan and Logan beck. It is out of print now so if you didnt get a chance to see it first time around go check it out here http://www.brite-water.co.uk/beck-guide
