It was wet midweek but the rivers are back to being low now. There are scattered showers around and more due tonight. The surf forecast is for small but nice surf on Saturday over on the North East coast.
There are free coaching and events at Brockhole. Ideally ring WCK to book but just turning up will be fine. I'm gonna make sure I get to the first aid CPR demo advice clinic, so it would be good if someone else gets clued up on how to save my ass ;-) as well!
rainchasers are runnning the evening do with the film comp reults, and the European Premiere of 'Call of the River' a great historical documentary about the sport. Again if you can book with the shop thats great but just turning up will work! its a fiver including a buffet and is not for profit as there are costs involved.
Sunday brings the "Longest day, Longest lake, Longest Race" a straight dash or bimble down Windermere.
Hope to see you there |

rainchasers is proud to be arranging the film night in conjunction with the weekends event at Brockhole on the 20th and 21st of June. After all the free coaching etc, there is a buffet and film night. Headlining this is The European Premiere of 'Call of the River'. A brilliant documentary style film tracing the development of the sport from those first tentative jaunts downriver to the worlkd of modern river boating. Its stitched together with wacky characters, weird tales and amazing archive footage.
We will also show the film comp entries in high resolution on the big screen and announce the results. Prizewinners will receive there bounty from pyranha and WCK. We also have a some fresh shorts from BC and elsewhere.
Tickets from WCK - £5 including buffet from 6

Jonny Briggs has sent in an interesting article about his recent trip to the Pyrenees. Portage from Hell is well worth a read.
Also worth a read for a nice anatomy of how a drop mutates goes from portage to runnable - and there are some pictures on that one.
If your really fed up of reading text, then sit back for a ride down the Upper Dart at a good flow. I've always wondered if it was worth its reputation. Euthanasia looks like its worth thinking about at that flow. |

There is rain around at present. The weather over the weekend is pretty unusual and potentially wet. Forecasts don't look very reliable but something is going to happen! The rivers are low so its going to take either heavy stuff to get runoff going a sustained spell of rain to bring things up. Saturday looks best for the quick runoff .The Lakes and Pennines look like they may be a good bet :-)!
The is some potential for surf on the North East coast. Tides are medium.
The Tryweryn is open.
Olaf's Addidas Sickline event is filling up quick so if you fancy your chances on the extreme giant slalom register quick! |

The film comp entrants will receive notification of whether they have placed or not by the end of the week. The public announcement of the results will be at the Longest Day evening bash.
The film comp menu on the left has demoted the blogs for a while on the menus so I shall point out that Maud, Jack and I have updated recently.
We have also received the first batch of our kayak carrier system from the manufacturer. I shall put together pictures, instructions etc, when I have more time. We do have a few available to order now. We are very pleased with the product, which we began well over a year ago. It has been thoroughly tested and the quality of manufacturing is very high. It will only be available direct from us at £40 (plus any p+p) and will go into the 'shop' section of the site. Please get in touch if you are interested at ned 'at' rainchasers 'dot' com. The profit will help fund rainchasers (from which we will run and develop the website and pursue gauge projects). |
