Paying for lakes

The Lake District National Park, in its wisdom, is considering a fee for  launching all boats on several lakes including canoes and kayaks on  Windermere, Coniston, Ullswater and Derwent Water. Should you wish to have your say about this you can by filling in the form at http://www.lake-district.gov.uk/survey/ it takes about 15 minutes with time to make comments.

Quite how a public body can consider charging for a natural resource when no damage is being caused, or service being used, is completely beyond me. I thought the idea of having a national park was to ensure a natural heritage and resource for everyone. Still, if you fancy the idea of paying to get on the Crake then feel you can use the survey to say that too!

I just noticed whilst doing this they actually have a kayaking picture as tha main banner on their site. I can remember one positive comment or action they have done for kayaking locally (correct me if im wrong). The most recent examples would be charging for parking everywhere,  in the case of Brown Howe has just lead to parking congestion and erosion outside the pay and display section. The other that one amazes me is they will not even consider adjusting the wire on the Upper Duddon which gets very dangerous when its high and  always difficult to see. This is going to to get someone drowned at some point.

Well after having a good whinge ive decided to send them and e-mail concentrating on the Duddon wire. We shall see!
