Rearrange the work schedule, cancel the family's birthdays, vaccinate against man flu and dont even consider doing any decorating! If you only ever go to one talk about boating, or you want your non kayaking mates or family to 'get it' then this is the one... If you can make the Imax at Rheged on Monday 9th March it should be awesome. Still some tickets for the brewery in kendal on the Tuesday.
Doug Ammons is the paddlers paddler. 5 kids, a proper job, and a raft of hard first descents around the globe, this guy hand paddled the North Fork Payette and soloed the Stikine (probably all before breakfast!). He is hugely respected by his peers as a talented and graceful boater and a good guy.
As a bonus, he writes really good books as well. "Laugh of the Water Nymph" is, in my opinion, hands down the best book ever written about boating. You can taste samples from its eclectic delights here
