We've been getting some questions about the Ingleton falls footage which is getting loads of hits( 322 in one day) in the movie section. So here is some further info.
- Water level; We took the footage a week wednesday (15th
March) when the snow melted due to a warm day. This is equivalent to a
few hours of light rain. The stepping stones at the top were just
covered. It is runnnable at lower levels but a turns into a bit of a
low water stunt. Higher water levels can be run, but the holes require
clean boofs. It's best avoided when it really gets going. It's quite
hard to get the level right for this as it can easily be too high or
low.
- We did one portage (the drop after beezley) but this
goes for the bold in higher water. Plus the pin, which was a first
attempt for us at this one. Anyone done it successfully?
- The pin wasn't as bad as it looks. I was hidden behind
the curtain and breathing! The intended line was to make the cauldron
on the right and then cross the cushion. Keen for another go though
(was too cautious about a guard rock on the approach!)
- The rest of the river is too low to paddle at this level, so we walked the boats back up to the car.
-
The river is dangerous in places, especially at higher flows. It's
virtually impossible to protect some of the drops, and swimming is a v
bad idea on Kiwi and the gorge. Those limestone pots are deep and
scuplted out. 'Kiwi Pot' got its name from a seriously bad experience
(pause the video and you'll see where you dont want to be! The height
is hidden from this angle - it's about 3 metres high (depending on
flow)).
- Snow falls has a straightforward lead in. Its not
that deep (maybe 6/7 foot), but too be honest it's so easy to boof that
its more of an issue to get the nose down a bit, as a full boof is
going to hurt!
- Your going to attract attention on this as
there is a popular walk up the side (which people pay for). So the
usual dont do anything to irritate people rules apply!
We've got some pictures of a higher flow which should go up soon. Anyone got pictures/stories tell from Ingleton falls?
